![]() ![]() The choices alluded to real life situations that have to do with charity. What do you do? Within this scenario he gave us three basic choices. There are one hundred people close to drowning in the ocean. There are fifty people in a life boat that can hold up to sixty safely. One of his more famous analogies is the “Lifeboat Ethics.” In this he had the lifeboat analogy. This was hard to believe by some of the people in his generation, but he was convinced of it, and had many eccentric analogies explaining his feelings. Hardin believed that aiding poor countries overseas would only add to the earth’s population, giving a slow and painful demise. Following that, he received a PhD in 1941 from Stanford University, in microbiology. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in zoology in 1936 from the University of Chicago. Garrett James Hardin from Dallas, Texas, used his skills as a leading ecologist to warn people of the dangers of overpopulation. Although their ideas differed greatly, they did have something in common, the well-being of society. Both of these men had contrasting views on these topics because Singer is very fond of aiding people overseas, while Hardin does not agree with it as much. Hardin and Singer were very clear on their views of overpopulation, charity, and moralization. There were many scholars with different sets of morals that had their personal views on the topic. These conflicting ideas come down to an individual’s morality. Inevitably, their population can increase, which can be seen as a positive aspect, along as a negative situation, because an increase in population, can lead to overpopulation. There are many views on giving charity to poor societies, because when charity is given to these societies they can do better. While Hardin and Singer both use analogies to make their points relevant, Hardin has a more convincing argument. Peter Singer, who was the author of “The Singer Solution to World Poverty,” had opposing views in regard to Hardin when it comes to the same thought. Garrett James Hardin was the author of “Lifeboat Ethics,” where he used a “lifeboat” analogy to back up his feelings on overpopulation, and ultimately argues against it. Two authors who have published their feelings about overpopulation, and charity are Hardin, and Pinker. ![]()
